BADCOT (Burley & District Chamber of Trade) is a thriving voluntary organisation with scores of members from business and communities in West Yorkshire’s Burley-in-Wharfedale, Menston and surrounding areas. Situated near the spa town of Ilkley, we’re about 10 miles from Bradford and 13 from Leeds.
Established in 2002, we work closely with parish, district and city councils, MPs, local organisations and the police to make sure this area remains a great place to visit, live and do business in.
One of our most successful initiatives has been the increasingly popular Burley Christmas Market – which welcomes more than 2,000 visitors a year and continues to grow. We also play a big part in the wonderful Burley Summer Festival, featuring inspiring events such as the Scarecrow Trail, first introduced by the Chamber.
Our many other achievements include securing thousands of pounds of compensation for businesses affected by a closure of Burley Main Street, discounts on advertising in the local press, a grant for a primary schools project to research trade in our district, the publication of the Burley Handbook. We recently introduced a free-to-members business card display located at the Red Lion, to help widen our business reach.
We are also an affiliate member of the Ilkley Business Forum – meaning most of its excellent networking, workshops and seminar events, often run by experts from the universities of Bradford and Leeds, are free to our members.
BADCOT is keen on networking and holds regular events of its own in Burley at times and locations convenient to business owners and those heading up community groups.
We look forward to our continued growth through welcoming new members and working together with businesses and the wider community to tackle the challenges we face as business owners and to provide a forum for sharing the trials and tribulations of running a business or organisation.
